FAQ: Flipper Zero — Tamagochi for Hackers
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

I've found a website offering Flipper products. Is it you?

No! The only official place to order Flipper Zero is our Kickstarter campaign for now. Be careful not to get to the tricks of fraudsters.

What is the shipping price?

Shipping is worldwide. We will ask you to pay it separately closer to the date of the shipping on our website. Due to the coronavirus, the shipping prices are highly volatile right now, so we cannot accurately predict the exact delivery price. Even a few dollars of change can generate a massive risk for the project.

For now, we expect the prices to be 10-35$ depending on the shipping area. We are not making any money on it, and we will do our best to optimize the shipping process, so you get the lowest prices and fastest delivery times possible.

How about local taxes, duties, and VAT?

Our prices do not include local taxes, duties, and VAT. That will be subject to the laws and regulations of each individual country, but we will do our best to minimize the additional costs.

When will you ship?

We will receive the funds 14 days after the campaign ends, and then immediately kick off the tooling production. After that, we will run a few trial runs to be totally sure that the product is ready and reliable. If everything goes well, we’ll start shipping in February 2021.

Is this legal?

Official firmware will not have any kind of potentially illegal features, such as jamming, brute force, etc. So Flipper Zero should be completely legal in all countries. Since its open-source, you can always implement any feature you want or use 3rd party firmware made by the community. In this case, all responsibility is on you.

Will my Flipper have NFC and Bluetooth?

Yes, all the Flippers will have an NFC and Bluetooth. This does not depend on when you made your pledge.

How to choose the color? Can I add more Flippers to my pledge?

After the campaign ends, we will share a link to our Pledge Manager website. There you will be able to choose the color, confirm your address, choose add-ons, as well as change your pledge quantity. So keep an eye on your inbox.

I’m a noob, how can I learn to use Flipper?

We will make a wiki, the knowledge base, and how-to tutorials. This will help beginners to get familiar with Flipper features, coding, and electronics development. But it will be also very useful for experienced users and help them to dig deep inside Flipper’s brain — firmware architecture and electronics schematics.

Last updated: August 07, 2020 12:56

Can I join the development?

Totally! We hope for your contribution from the very early stages. We are preparing the development program right now and will share it very soon in a future update.

Will you add more flexible goals?

All stretch goals were accurately calculated in BOM and economic model, so we can’t change something on the go just for hype.

Will U2F work over Bluetooth and NFC as well?

Right now we are testing U2F only via USB. But will try to implement it via Bluetooth and NFC.

Last updated: August 07, 2020 12:56

Will there be a password to protect this device if it should be lost or stolen?

Yes, you will be able to generate a custom PIN-code from pad like Mortal Combat Fatality combo →↑↑←↓↑↓. You also can lock the firmware, to prevent debugging and extracting U2F private keys from the flash memory.

Will it have QI Wireless charging option?

No. There are too many antennas in such little case, so we can’t add wireless charging.

Won't you get overwhelmed with so many orders?

Don’t be afraid of these big numbers. We have enough resources to produce all the Flippers. The process is same if we need to produce 1000 or 10000 devices. Our suppliers also love larger orders so that even helps us!

Last updated: August 07, 2020 12:56

What about Burnished Bronze or Pimpin' Purple case colors?

We are exploring and testing available color options. There will be a public poll to select from the variety of colors. Stay tuned!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
